Understanding Penile Doppler

What Is a Penile Duplex Ultrasound?

Penile Doppler Test in Delhi, also known as Penile Duplex Ultrasound, Penile Colour Doppler, or Penile Duplex Doppler Scan, is an advanced diagnostic test performed by an experienced andrologist or urologist to evaluate blood flow in the penis. It is one of the most reliable investigations for diagnosing the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction (ED), venous leak, Peyronie's disease, penile vascular disorders, and other conditions affecting erectile function.

Penile Doppler ultrasound is first performed in the flaccid state to record baseline arterial blood flow. An intracavernosal injection of a vasoactive agent, such as prostaglandin E1, is then administered to induce an erection. After approximately 45 minutes, the Doppler scan is repeated to assess peak systolic velocity, end-diastolic velocity, arterial inflow, and penile vascular response.

Arterial Blood Flow Evaluates whether sufficient blood enters the penis during an erection response.
Blood Retention Assesses whether blood is retained effectively within the penile tissues.

Why Choose New Delhi Andrology for Penile Doppler?

The examination is carried out under the direct supervision of Dr. Vijayant Govinda gupta. This specialist-led approach helps minimise procedural risks, ensures close monitoring throughout the test and allows prompt medical intervention whenever required.

Direct Urologist Supervision

The test is performed under the supervision of a urologist who can assess the response, monitor safety and intervene immediately if needed.

Risk-Minimised Clinical Protocol

Medication dose, response and observation are managed according to the patient's clinical condition to keep the risk as low as reasonably possible.

Post-Test Safety Observation

The patient is clinically monitored after the examination so that any prolonged erection or unexpected response can be identified early.

Immediate Priapism Management

Although priapism is uncommon, immediate reversal treatment is available on-site. If it occurs as a complication of the test, the required emergency treatment is provided without an additional treatment charge.

Our Safety Commitment

Specialist supervision and structured monitoring significantly reduce the likelihood of complications. In the unlikely event of test-related priapism, immediate medical management is provided at the clinic without an additional treatment fee.

No medical procedure is completely risk-free. Individual risk may vary according to the patient's health, medication response and clinical condition. The urologist will explain the procedure and relevant precautions before the test.

Advanced Vascular Assessment

How Is a Penile Doppler Test Performed?

The Penile Doppler Test is performed in a private clinical setting to evaluate penile blood circulation, arterial inflow and blood retention during an erection response.

Step-by-Step Process

What Happens During the Test?

The exact protocol may vary according to the patient’s symptoms, medical history, medication response and the urologist’s clinical assessment.

01
Preparation

Medical Review and Private Preparation

The urologist reviews the patient’s symptoms, medical history and current medicines before explaining the procedure and relevant precautions.

02
Initial Scan

Resting Penile Ultrasound

Ultrasound gel is applied and the Doppler probe is gently positioned to assess the penile tissues, blood vessels and resting circulation.

03
Vascular Response

Medication May Be Administered

When clinically required, a carefully selected dose of medicine may be administered to create a controlled erection response for accurate blood-flow assessment.

04
Doppler Measurements

Real-Time Blood-Flow Analysis

The urologist records arterial inflow, blood-flow velocity and the pattern of blood leaving the penile tissues at selected intervals.

05
Clinical Review

Report and Treatment Guidance

The findings are reviewed to identify possible arterial insufficiency, impaired blood retention or another vascular cause of erectile dysfunction.

06
Safety Observation

Discharge After the Erection Has Subsided

After the measurements are completed, the patient remains under clinical observation. Discharge is advised only after the erection has sufficiently subsided and the urologist is satisfied that the patient is clinically stable. This helps reduce the risk of a prolonged erection and allows early treatment if an unexpected response occurs.

Private and Urologist-Supervised Examination

Medication response, Doppler measurements and post-test recovery are monitored according to the patient’s individual clinical condition.
