Overview

The frenulum is a small but highly sensitive band of tissue on the underside of the penis, connecting the foreskin area to the underside of the glans. In many men it is flexible and causes no problem. In some men, the frenulum is short, tight or repeatedly injured. This condition is commonly called tight frenulum or frenulum breve.

A tight frenulum may create a pulling sensation during erection, pain during intercourse, small cuts, bleeding, fear of sexual activity, hypersensitivity or early ejaculation. Some patients notice the problem during first intercourse. Others discover it later, especially when intercourse happens without protection and the foreskin moves more directly.
